St Augustine’s Golf Club

The Saints and Sinners

The Committee Cup

Welcome to the the Seniors Section of Saint Augustine’s Golf Club, which is known as the Saints & Sinners. It was formed in 1977, and all male Club members who are over 55 years of age are eligible to join. The course is 18 holes in a beautiful tree lined setting. It is fairly flat and not too long and therefore ideal for more mature golfers. However, it is still quite challenging due to the trees, water and other hazards.

We currently have around 60 members. The annual subscription of £20 entitles members to play in all weekly competitions (mostly Stableford format), which are played on Monday mornings. Tee times are between 7.30 and 8.50. For 26 of the competitions, the winner is awarded an engraved cup or trophy and seven are also Club Qualifying rounds, which count towards the member’s handicap. A number are in a team format such as Texas Scramble. The remainder are “friendly” Stableford fixtures and might result in an award of a golf ball or two!

Members are eligible for selection to play for the Saints in home and away matches against twelve local clubs: Canterbury, Westgate, Chestfield, North Foreland, Walmer & Kingsdown, Cinque Ports, Etchinghill, Broome Park, Stonelees, Whitstable, Boughton and Faversham. Green fees are not payable for the away matches and the only cost is for the meal after the match.

Highlights of the year include Captain’s Day which is played in the summer and the Christmas meeting in early December.

A buggy belonging to the Saints is available to members at a preferential rate at any time of the week subject to availability.

The Section is always very pleased to welcome new members. Anyone interested in joining should contact one of the Committee Members.
